Purchasing incontinence supplies on a regular basis can become expensive, especially when on a fixed or low income. Fortunately, if you are a resident of California you may qualify for Medi-Cal which can help cover the cost.
Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid program which provides health insurance and long term care coverage to low income children and their parents, the elderly, and disabled residents of the state. You may qualify for Medi-Cal benefits if you are one of the following:
- 65 or older
- Under 21
- On refugee status
- Have been screened for breast and/or cervical cancer
Also, if you are enrolled in one of the following programs you may qualify for Medi-Cal:
- CalWorks (ADFC)
- Refugee Assistance
- Foster Care or Adoption Assistance Program
- In Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
Medi-Cal is one of the few health insurance programs available that can help cover the cost of necessary incontinence items. Some of the incontinence products they cover are:
- Pull Ons (also known as protective underwear and pull ups)
- Briefs (also known as adult diapers)
- Reusable Underwear
- Underpads/Bed Liners/CHUX
